I would necessarily seek this out again in the future though just due to the garbage and the smoking. If you really like hot springs I would suggest coming here to check it out. Bagby mimics that feeling for sure, but at least with Bagby you can be in your own personal wooden stall and be one on one with your partner in a hollow log. There were a lot of people there and there were people smoking as well as garbage around the area. I found the pools to be a bit lukewarm for my liking, and they were a bit dirty. Umpua pools are multiple and natural made, and look over a beautiful river, so it does have absolutely amazing views. Umpqua Hot Springs is not well regulated or run besides the basic state park, so it mimics Bagby in that way. Breitenbush is a natural hot spring but is kept up beautifully by the Breitenbush Retreat, so there is no trash, garbage, smoking, etc. ![]() Sol Duc and Bonneville are like resort style where the water is pumped into manmade pools, so if you want very clean and regulated hotsprings, those places are for you. ![]() I've been to multiple hotsprings (Breitenbush, Bagby, Sol Duc, Bonneville) and this one was probably my least favorite. I am so disappointed that the rangers or sheriffs haven’t done something to address this. Whatever their intentions, this place is a complete dump and honestly terrifying. When we tried to pull out of the lot the group of people were like “Where you going so soon?!” but it wasn’t asked in a friendly. We pulled up to look at the map on how far the springs were away from the trailhead and there were bullet holes all in the map along with several missing person flyers and so much graffiti that you couldn’t even read the map.Īfter seeing this we decided to leave, we didn’t even get to see the hot springs. Then there was a couple heavily packing on the PDA. When we pulled in there was a group of people who literally squatted and used the bathroom right in front of us on the ground. There were people asleep in sleeping bags on the ground. As soon as you pull into the trail head there are MULTIPLE homeless encampments full of people who I assume use the hot springs as personal bath tubs. My husband and I legitimately felt unsafe here. ![]()
